CPS All-Star Showcase raises funds, awareness

Now in its second year, the CPS All-Star Showcase raised $15,000 to assist students in need at CPS schools. The basketball competition, between CPS schools all-stars and other competitions, is a partnership between CPS and UC that raises funds for Project Connect, an organization of advocacy paired with specialized educational services and lifestyle enrichment opportunities for CPS students experiencing homelessness.

Multiple media outlets covered the second annual CPS All-Star Showcase, where CPS basketball players and representatives compete in games and participate in competitions such as the slam dunk and three-point contests.

The showcase is a partnership between CPS and the University of Cincinnati. The event raised $15.000 for Project Connect, which provides advocacy paired with specialized educational services and lifestyle enrichment opportunities for children who have neither a voice, nor a choice, in experiencing homelessness.

CPS annually serves about 3,500 students who are experiencing homelessness. Project Connect offers help by clearing obstacles to enrollment and attendance, arranging transportation and additional enrichment opportunities as well as many other resources.

The showcase demonstrates the partnership with UC’s CPS Strong initiative that focuses on recruitment, persistence, retention, and graduation of former CPS students attending UC.

The All-Star event moved locations due to a court refinishing project at UC’s Fifth Third Arena. Woodward Career Technical High School was selected as it is one of the largest venues within the district and its central location. Rich basketball history lives at Woodward with it being home to the first basketball state championship team in the district.
